What it does
When you explicitly ask, this skill makes the agent act as a careful code optimizer. It improves code that already works and is already tested: it looks for slow algorithms or repeated database queries, extracts duplicated logic, removes dead code and unused imports, and makes code easier to read. It is meant to keep behavior identical, requires tests to keep passing, and reports each change with before/after details. It does not run automatically; it only applies when someone asks for a scoped refactor or measured optimization.
Great for
- Developers who want a scoped cleanup of a module that already has passing tests
- Teams wanting measured performance fixes such as removing N+1 queries or lowering algorithmic complexity
- Projects that are accumulating dead code, duplicated logic or leftover debug statements
Skip it if
- Adding new features or changing behavior: the skill itself says these must go through a separate feature process, and it will flag them as out of scope
- Code with no test suite: the skill depends on tests staying green, so without them it cannot verify that behavior is preserved
- Projects that rely on the named companion skills (Mason, Luna, Quinn) being installed: the file references them as optional roles, so their absence may reduce the workflow to general guidance
Try asking
- “Refactor the user service module to remove duplicated validation logic, keeping all tests passing”
- “Find N+1 query patterns in this Express route handler and batch them, reporting before and after complexity”
- “Remove unused imports, dead feature flags and resolved TODO comments from the utils folder”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Name the exact scope (a file, module or performance problem) so the skill stays within one type of change
- Make sure your test suite runs and passes before asking for a refactor, so the skill has evidence to check against
- Review the structured report and run tests yourself, since passing tests are only bounded evidence that behavior is unchanged
