What it does

This is the old version (v1) of a skill that tries to learn from your coding sessions. When Claude Code finishes a session, a Stop hook is meant to evaluate the conversation, detect reusable patterns such as error fixes, user corrections or debugging techniques, and save them as learned skills in ~/.claude/skills/learned/. The file itself states that v1 is deprecated as of 2026-04-28 and that continuous-learning-v2 should be used instead; this version is kept only for backward compatibility.

Great for

  • Developers who already have v1 installed and need it to keep working
  • Maintainers comparing the old hook-based approach with the instinct-based v2

Skip it if

  • New installations: the file says to use continuous-learning-v2, which is the preferred and maintained path
  • Anyone expecting reliable capture: the file notes v1 relies on a skill and the hook evaluation is probabilistic, unlike v2's hook-based observation

Try asking

  • “Use continuous-learning-v2 instead for learning from my sessions”
  • “Review or curate the learned skills in ~/.claude/skills/learned/”
  • “Adjust the extraction threshold in config.json for the legacy v1 hook”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Continuous Learning v1 (obsoleto)Install, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    continuous-learning.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip continuous-learning.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip continuous-learning.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Prefer continuous-learning-v2 for any new setup
  • Review auto-extracted skills before trusting them, since auto_approve is set to false by default and the hook runs a shell script at the end of every session
