What it does
When installed, the agent can turn a codebase into a guided walkthrough saved as a CodeTour .tour file in a .tours/ folder. Each step points to a real file and line range, with an explanation of what the reader is looking at and why it matters. It is aimed at onboarding new engineers, explaining architecture, walking through pull requests, or explaining how a feature works, and it is meant to only write .tour JSON files rather than change source code.
Great for
- Engineers onboarding onto an unfamiliar repository
- Reviewers who want a guided route through a pull request
- Teams that already use or want to adopt the CodeTour VS Code extension format
Skip it if
- One-off questions that a direct answer can handle; the skill adds overhead for simple explanations
- Teams that want standard prose documentation rather than a .tour artifact
- Broad codebase onboarding, where the skill itself points to a different skill (codebase-onboarding)
Try asking
- “Create an onboarding tour of this repository for a new engineer joining the team”
- “Make a tour explaining how the request handling flow works, with file and line anchors”
- “Build a PR tour that guides a reviewer through the changed files in this branch”
- “Write an architecture walkthrough as a CodeTour file in .tours/”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Name the reader (new joiner, reviewer, incident responder) so the skill picks the right persona and step depth.
- Point it at a specific feature or PR to keep the tour focused rather than covering the whole repo.
- Check the line anchors in the generated .tour file after edits, since line numbers drift when code changes.
