What it does

When you explicitly ask, the agent writes a task brief and sends it to Aider, a separate open-source AI coding tool, which edits files in your git repository. The agent then reviews the resulting diff and decides whether to commit it, so Aider's edits are not auto-committed. The file set is documentation-only in this bundle: the relay script it relies on is absent, so the workflow cannot run as documented without a separately installed runtime.

Great for

  • Developers who already use Aider or a local model and want a reviewable diff from a bounded task
  • Users running a self-hosted OpenAI-compatible model (Ollama, llama.cpp, vLLM, LM Studio) who want an implementer on their own hardware
  • Teams that want the orchestrating agent to keep commit authority rather than the implementer

Skip it if

  • Small edits that are faster to do inline, since delegation adds setup and overhead
  • Repositories with secrets or private code sent to a third-party provider without a confirmed data policy, because the brief and code context are transmitted to the configured model
  • Anyone expecting it to run out of the box: scripts/relay.mjs is missing from this bundle and installing Aider or a pinned runtime requires separate authorization

Try asking

  • “Delegate this refactor of the auth module to Aider, then review the diff before committing”
  • “Send this bounded bug fix to my local Ollama model through Aider and show me the changes”
  • “Hand this test-writing task to Aider with only src/utils in scope and review what it produced”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 5 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    aider-delegate.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip aider-delegate.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip aider-delegate.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Confirm the intended provider endpoint, data policy and cost limit before dispatch, and never send a real provider key to an untrusted api-base.
  • Disable or review repository lint and test commands before running, since --auto-lint and repo hooks can execute project tooling.
  • Keep the brief scoped with --file so the implementer touches only the intended files, and review the diff before any commit.
