What it does

This skill turns the AI into a coordinator for a software project. It routes work to eight named roles in sequence (analyst, strategist, architect, builder, reviewer, tester, optimizer, DevOps), keeps a compact project-state record, and summarizes each role's output for the user instead of pasting full reports. The files describe the roles and routing rules; they do not install any separate agent programs.

Great for

  • Developers running a larger feature or new project who want a structured plan-build-review-test-deploy flow
  • Teams that want consistent handoff briefings and versioned artifact references between phases
  • People who want to call a single role (for example a code review only) without running the whole pipeline

Skip it if

  • Small one-off coding tasks, where the eight-role process adds overhead without benefit
  • Users expecting fully automatic end-to-end delivery: the skill says the squad must not chain without consent, and it should not be relied on to ship code unattended
  • Non-technical users, since it assumes familiarity with requirements, architecture, CI and deployment

Try asking

  • “Plan and build a new project from requirements through to tests, using the squad workflow”
  • “Review existing code only, using the reviewer role directly”
  • “Add a mid-project feature as an amendment to existing requirements and plan”
  • “Set up CI and containerization for an existing codebase”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Agent Squad OrchestratorInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 9 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    agent-squad.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip agent-squad.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip agent-squad.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Name the phase you want (for example 'review this code' or 'plan this out') so the right role is selected rather than the full pipeline
  • Keep approved project storage paths and version labels in each handoff, since a version label alone cannot retrieve an artifact
  • Review the role reports yourself: the skill states they are evidence, not authority to merge or deploy
