What it does
It teaches an AI agent to set up and use a local memory server (via the Model Context Protocol) that stores project architecture decisions, patterns and documentation, then search, read and write them later. Once installed, the agent can recall past decisions across sessions instead of starting from scratch. The skill itself tells the agent to clone and review an external repository (webzler/agentMemory) at a pinned commit, install its dependencies and start its server.
Great for
- Developers who want a persistent, searchable record of architecture decisions in a specific project
- Teams experimenting with local MCP memory servers who can review the code before running it
Skip it if
- Anyone who cannot review third-party code: the setup runs npm install and starts a server from an external repository, and the skill is marked risk: critical
- Sensitive or regulated projects where memory files might capture credentials or personal data, since stored memories persist on disk
Try asking
- “Set up a memory server for this project so you can save and search our auth architecture decisions”
- “Save this database choice as a decision called db-v2 and tag it for later”
- “Find all authentication patterns we have recorded in project memory”
- “Show memory statistics for the current workspace”

Add it to your agent
Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip agent-memory-mcp.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip agent-memory-mcp.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Review the cloned repository's package.json, lifecycle scripts and network behaviour before running npm ci, as the skill instructs; do not skip the approval step
- Keep the dashboard bound to localhost and only pass the workspace path you intend the memory to cover
- Check imported .kilocode, .clinerules or .roo files for credentials before letting the agent copy them into memory
