What it does

This skill teaches an AI agent how to use the xurl command-line tool to act on the X (formerly Twitter) platform. Once installed and authenticated on your machine, the agent can post, reply, quote, search, read posts, look up users, follow or block accounts, send direct messages, and upload media, all through short commands that return JSON. It also explains how to call any X API v2 endpoint directly. The skill includes strict rules telling the agent never to read or handle your stored credentials.

Great for

  • Marketers or social media managers who want an agent to draft and publish posts or monitor mentions and search results
  • Developers building automations or scripts against the X API v2
  • Creators who want help managing replies, bookmarks, or media uploads on their own X account

Skip it if

  • Anyone who wants the agent to post or send DMs without reviewing each action, since these write actions are live on a real account and can be hard to undo
  • Users who cannot or will not set up their own X developer app and credentials, because the skill is unusable without them
  • Situations involving sensitive credentials on a shared or monitored machine, since the skill relies on a local credentials file and warns about secret leakage in agent sessions

Try asking

  • “Post 'Our new feature is live today!' to my X account”
  • “Search X for the last 20 posts mentioning our product name and summarize the sentiment”
  • “Reply to post 1234567890 with a thank-you message”
  • “Upload the video at ./demo.mp4 and check its processing status”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    xurl.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip xurl.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip xurl.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Run xurl auth status yourself first to confirm the CLI is authenticated before asking the agent to act
  • Review drafts before asking the agent to post, reply, or send DMs, since these actions publish immediately
  • Keep credentials out of chat: register apps and fill ~/.xurl yourself, and avoid verbose mode in agent sessions
