What it does

This skill teaches an AI agent to work with your Bear notes app on a Mac using a command-line tool called grizzly. Once installed, the agent can create new notes, add text to existing notes, list your tags, and open notes by tag or ID so it can read them back. It only works while Bear is running on macOS.

Great for

  • Mac users who keep notes in Bear and want an agent to file, append or look up notes
  • People who want to capture quick notes or tags from the terminal or an agent conversation
  • Developers comfortable installing a Go-based CLI and storing an API token

Skip it if

  • Users on Windows or Linux, since the skill is limited to macOS (darwin) and Bear is a Mac app
  • Anyone unwilling to store Bear's API token in a local file, because some actions need it and it grants access to note content
  • Situations where notes are sensitive and the agent should not read or change them, since the skill can open and modify notes through Bear's callback system

Try asking

  • “Create a note titled 'Meeting follow-ups' tagged work with these bullet points”
  • “Add today's action items to the end of my existing 'Project Plan' note”
  • “List all the tags I use in Bear”
  • “Open all notes tagged 'inbox' and summarise them”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    bear-notes.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip bear-notes.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip bear-notes.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Use --dry-run first to preview the x-callback URL before letting the agent act on real notes
  • Keep the token file permissions tight and only store the token you generated for this purpose
  • Ask the agent to confirm before appending to or overwriting important notes, and note that note IDs must come from Bear's note info or callbacks
