What it does
This skill teaches an AI agent to work with Things 3, a to-do app on macOS, using a command-line tool called things. Once installed, the agent can read your local Things data (inbox, today, upcoming, search, projects, areas, tags) and create or edit tasks by opening Things through its URL scheme. It also knows to preview changes with a dry-run option before making them.
Great for
- Mac users who run Things 3 and want to capture tasks by asking an assistant
- People who want quick read-only summaries of today's or upcoming tasks
- Developers comfortable installing a Go-based CLI and granting macOS permissions
Skip it if
- Windows or Linux users, since the skill is limited to macOS (darwin) and Things 3 only
- Anyone who wants the agent to delete tasks, because the tool does not support deletion and the skill says so
- Users unwilling to store an auth token, since editing existing tasks requires one and it could expose your task data if mishandled
Try asking
- “Add a to-do called 'Book flights' to my Travel project with a deadline of 2026-01-02”
- “What's on my Things list for today and what's coming up this week?”
- “Search Things for tasks mentioning 'invoice' and mark the matching one as completed”
- “Create a checklist task 'Trip prep' with Passport and Tickets as items”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Run commands with --dry-run first to see the Things URL before anything changes
- Store THINGS_AUTH_TOKEN as an environment variable rather than pasting it into chats
- Search first to get the task's UUID before asking the agent to update it
