What it does

This skill teaches the agent to use the songsee command-line tool to make pictures of sound. A spectrogram shows how the frequencies in a recording change over time, and songsee can also draw several analysis panels (such as tempo, chroma, and loudness) in one grid. Once installed, the agent can take an audio file, pick a time slice or colour style, and produce an image file for you to view or use.

Great for

  • Musicians or producers who want to see the structure of a track
  • Audio students learning how spectrograms and tempo or pitch features look
  • Developers building audio analysis pipelines who need quick visual checks

Skip it if

  • Editing or converting audio itself, since the skill only produces images (songsee does not modify the source file)
  • Users who need automatic music analysis numbers such as exact BPM or key, because the output is a picture to interpret by eye

Try asking

  • “Make a spectrogram of track.mp3 and save it as a JPG”
  • “Create a multi-panel visualization of song.wav with mel, chroma, and tempogram panels”
  • “Show a 8-second slice starting at 12.5 seconds from interview.mp3 as a PNG”
  • “Render a magma-style spectrogram limited to 100 Hz to 4000 Hz”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    songsee.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip songsee.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip songsee.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Use --start and --duration to focus on a section; full tracks produce dense images.
  • Pick a --style such as viridis or gray depending on whether the picture is for print or screen.
  • Ask for multiple --viz panels at once to compare features side by side in one grid.
