What it does

This skill makes the agent act as a reviewer for other agent skills. Given a skill name, it runs the studio's static and category checks on that skill, lists what fails, proposes targeted edits to the skill's instruction file, rewrites it after you approve, reruns the checks, and keeps the change only if the failure count drops; otherwise it offers to restore the previous text. It measures how well a skill is written, not whether it actually behaves better, which the file says explicitly.

Great for

  • Maintainers of a Claude Code game-studio skill library who want to clean up skill files
  • Developers writing their own SKILL.md files who want structured feedback on frontmatter and ask-before-write language
  • Teams standardising skills against a shared rubric

Skip it if

  • Judging whether a skill actually works in practice: the score comes from reading the file, not running it, so the skill itself says to test real requests separately
  • Unattended use on important skills: edits are written to SKILL.md and references files, and the restore step depends on the agent keeping the prior text in conversation, so review the diffs carefully
  • Projects without the CCGS test framework (/skill-test and studio-tests/catalog.yaml), since the loop depends on those commands

Try asking

  • “/skill-improve tech-debt”
  • “/skill-improve my-custom-skill”
  • “Improve the skill named release-notes and show me the before and after scores”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Skill Improve LoopInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    skill-improve.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip skill-improve.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip skill-improve.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Run it on a copy or under git so you can review the diff; the skill itself warns not to use git checkout for restoring, so keep your own backup.
  • Afterwards, test the improved skill on a real request, since a higher score does not prove better behaviour.
  • If the skill has a references/ folder, expect edits to land in those files as well as SKILL.md, and check each one.
