What it does

When invoked, the agent reads the game concept document your team already wrote, then guides you through authoring an 'art bible' covering the game's visual identity: mood, shape language, colour system, character and environment direction, UI style, asset standards and references. It asks scope and reference questions, checks which sections already exist so it only fills gaps, and asks your approval before writing each section to a file. Depth and number of sections depend on the project's configured workflow and documentation density settings.

Great for

  • Game teams in a studio-style workflow that uses the Claude Code Game Studios setup and needs a visual direction document before producing art
  • Solo indie developers who want a structured prompt-driven outline of their game's art direction
  • Art leads or directors reviewing or completing an existing partial art bible

Skip it if

  • Projects without a game concept document: the skill stops and asks you to run the brainstorm step first
  • Teams who want finished artwork or image generation: the skill only writes a design document, not assets
  • Users outside the Claude Code Game Studios framework: it depends on specific folder layouts, config files and sibling skills (such as /brainstorm and /map-systems) that are not included here

Try asking

  • “/art-bible”
  • “/art-bible --review lean”
  • “Resume the art bible and fill in the missing sections of design/art/art-bible.md”
  • “Draft only the visual identity core (sections 1-4) for my game”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Art Bible AuthorInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    art-bible.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip art-bible.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip art-bible.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Run /brainstorm first so the game concept exists; the skill refuses to proceed without it
  • Choose the scope option the tool marks as Recommended unless you need the full nine sections, since each section spawns a specialist agent and increases run time and cost
  • Provide reference games, films or art up front to get more specific direction
