What it does

It teaches an AI agent to check a shared knowledge base of Markdown notes before starting work on a game or engine quirk, so it can reuse exact versions, routes and gotchas other agents already found. At the end of a modding or reverse-engineering session, it helps write a structured note of what was learned and, only with the human's approval, opens a GitHub pull request to add that note to the shared base.

Great for

  • Developers modding or reverse-engineering games who want agents to reuse past findings
  • Contributors to the universal-modder project who want to add notes from their own sessions
  • Teams running agents on repeated engine or technique problems

Skip it if

  • Simple tasks unrelated to game modding, where the knowledge base has nothing useful
  • Anyone who would publish a PR without reviewing the note, since PRs are public and use the user's GitHub account
  • Work that cheats other players or bypasses anti-cheat, DRM or ownership checks, which the skill itself forbids

Try asking

  • “Has anyone modded this game before? Search the field notes for it first.”
  • “I'm stuck on an engine quirk with passthrough routing, check the knowledge base for it.”
  • “We finished this mod session, write up a field note and show me the draft before any pull request.”
  • “Check my note with the knowledge base tooling and fix any failing sections.”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Share Field NotesInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    share-field-notes.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip share-field-notes.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip share-field-notes.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Always review the drafted note yourself before saying yes to a pull request, since it is public.
  • Treat search results as hints and re-verify versions and behaviour before building on them.
  • Keep a MODLOG.md during work so the final note is a cleaned-up copy of your log.
