What it does

This skill walks an AI agent through setting up a game project with a chosen engine (such as Godot or Unity) and a specific version. It records the engine and version in the project's CLAUDE.md and technical preference files, and when the version is newer than the model's training data it uses web search to pull current engine reference docs. It can also scaffold the project, verify the config import, add version-awareness notes to engine specialist agents, refresh the docs, and guide a version upgrade.

Great for

  • Indie game developers starting a new project who want the agent to know their engine and version
  • Teams using the Claude Code Game Studios template who need consistent engine configuration
  • Developers upgrading an existing game to a newer engine version and wanting migration help

Skip it if

  • Non-game software projects, since the workflow and file layout are built around game design documents and engines
  • Users who want the agent to guess the engine version without checking, because the skill tells the agent to verify versions and a guessed version can produce wrong setup
  • Environments where the agent should not run shell commands or fetch web pages, since the skill runs scripts and performs web lookups

Try asking

  • “/setup-engine godot 4.7”
  • “/setup-engine unity”
  • “/setup-engine refresh”
  • “/setup-engine upgrade 4.6 4.7”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Engine Setup WizardInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 13 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    setup-engine.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip setup-engine.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip setup-engine.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Give the engine and version explicitly (for example /setup-engine godot 4.7) so the agent does not have to guess or ask.
  • Review every CLAUDE.md and file change the agent proposes; the skill is written to ask before editing and before overwriting reference docs.
  • Run it inside a project folder you have backed up or under version control, since scaffolding and upgrade steps write files.
