What it does

When installed, the agent can create the starting folder structure for a new Python agent 'recipe' inside the google/adk-recipes repository. Instead of writing boilerplate by hand, it runs a bundled Python script that copies template files (an agent, a FastAPI server, telemetry helpers, tests, and config) and fills in the recipe name. It then tells the user the required next steps, such as completing the manifest and README and running the quick-start commands.

Great for

  • Contributors adding a new Python sample agent to the adk-recipes repository
  • Maintainers who want consistent layout and naming across recipes

Skip it if

  • Building a general-purpose ADK agent outside this repository, since it is designed around the repo's directory layout and conventions
  • Creating vertical plugins under plugins/<vertical>/<solution>/, which the skill explicitly cannot scaffold

Try asking

  • “Create a new Python ADK recipe called weather-helper in contrib/python/”
  • “Scaffold a Python recipe named support-bot-v2 under core/python/”
  • “Add a new Python recipe to the adk-recipes repository”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Scaffold Python ADK RecipeInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 15 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    scaffold-python-recipe.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip scaffold-python-recipe.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip scaffold-python-recipe.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Give the recipe name and output directory explicitly; the skill will ask if either is missing and will not guess defaults.
  • Recipe names must be lowercase letters and hyphens only, 30 characters or fewer, and not start or end with a hyphen.
  • After scaffolding, fill in the TODO fields in manifest.yaml and the generic README title before committing, since CI validates the manifest.
