What it does
When installed, the agent can read existing game code or a prototype folder and draft a design document (a game design section), an architecture decision record, or a concept document describing what the code already does. It first summarises the mechanics, formulas and tuning values it finds, then asks you about intent (for example whether a resource drain is for pacing or strategy) before writing the doc. It refuses to write a document if the code is too thin to support one.
Great for
- Game developers who built a feature without writing a design doc first
- Teams who inherited a Godot, Unity or Unreal codebase with little documentation
- Developers who prototyped a mechanic and want to formalise it
Skip it if
- Projects with no implementation yet: the skill infers design from behaviour, so it will decline rather than invent one (use a design-capture skill instead)
- Anyone expecting the document to be authoritative without review: intent is inferred and the agent asks clarifying questions, so the output needs human checking
- Non-game codebases: the path conventions and document templates are aimed at game design and game engine layouts
Try asking
- “/reverse-document design src/gameplay/combat”
- “/reverse-document architecture Assets/Scripts/Core”
- “/reverse-document concept prototypes/vehicle-combat”
- “Document the damage and cooldown formulas in src/gameplay/magic-system”

Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip reverse-document.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip reverse-document.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Point it at a specific folder or file rather than the whole repo so the analysis stays focused
- Answer the clarifying questions about intent; the document is only as accurate as those answers
- Check the workflow tier it reports, since the tier decides whether you get a full eight-section design doc or a one-page brief
