What it does

This skill walks an AI agent through making your personal gbrain knowledge base reachable over MCP (Model Context Protocol, a standard way for AI apps to use outside tools and data) from your other devices and from cloud-hosted agents. It uses Tailscale, a private networking service, by default so the brain stays on your machine and off the public internet. It also helps create a separate, limited-access credential for each connecting app and checks that the connection works.

Great for

  • Developers who run gbrain on a home or work machine and want Claude Desktop or Claude Code on a laptop or phone to use it
  • Users who want a cloud agent such as Grok Bot, Muse or ChatGPT to query their brain and accept that this requires a public HTTPS endpoint
  • People comfortable reviewing networking and service changes before approving them

Skip it if

  • Users without an always-on brain host or without the ability to review system changes, since the skill installs software, changes network config and creates background services on the host
  • Anyone who wants to expose data publicly without understanding Funnel, which makes the endpoint reachable from the open internet and relies on OAuth or bearer tokens for protection
  • Thin-client machines that do not hold the brain, since the skill itself says it must run on the brain host

Try asking

  • “Use my brain over MCP so I can query it from my laptop”
  • “Put my brain on Tailscale and connect Claude Desktop on my phone”
  • “Connect Grok Bot to my brain using a Funnel endpoint”
  • “Connect Claude Code on this machine to my brain over loopback”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Remote MCP Brain AccessInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    remote-mcp.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip remote-mcp.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip remote-mcp.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Run gbrain mcp expose --dry-run first and read the printed plan before approving any system change
  • Only use --funnel when the client truly runs in a vendor cloud, and say so before running it
  • Grant each client the narrowest profile, such as memory-reader or memory-writer, and never operator or admin
