What it does
This skill gives the agent a set of established patterns for handling errors in Python code: validating inputs early before doing work, raising specific exception types with clear messages, converting raw strings into typed values at the edges of a program, and keeping one failed item from aborting a whole batch. Once installed, when you ask the agent to add validation or improve error handling, it follows these conventions and writes code that fails clearly rather than silently. It is guidance for writing code, not a tool that runs anything itself.
Great for
- Python developers building APIs or services that need consistent input validation
- Teams designing exception hierarchies or reviewing error-handling in existing code
- Developers processing batches of records who need partial-failure tracking
Skip it if
- Non-Python projects, since the examples and patterns are specific to Python and Pydantic
- Anyone expecting it to debug a live error in a running system; it provides patterns, not diagnostics tied to your code
Try asking
- “Add input validation to this function that takes a page size and URL”
- “Refactor this batch import so one bad row doesn't stop the whole run and I get a report of failures”
- “Design a custom exception hierarchy for our payment module”
- “Convert these raw string parameters into enums at the API boundary”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Point the agent at a specific function or module so it applies the patterns to real code rather than generic examples.
- Say whether you want Pydantic or plain Python checks, since the skill covers both and the choice depends on your stack.
- Ask for tests of the error paths too, since the skill's best practices include testing failure cases.
