What it does
When installed, the agent helps you set up a small team of AI coding agents (for example a builder and an independent reviewer) inside the OpenRig orchestration tool, and guides how they hand off work through queues and optional workflows. It walks through choosing providers (Claude Code, Codex), launching the team with rig commands, agreeing on a work boundary and stop conditions, and growing the team later. It also sets guardrails such as asking before launching work and avoiding copying credentials.
Great for
- Developers who want a repeatable, reviewed multi-agent workflow on a real code repository
- Teams already running OpenRig who need a path to add seats and assign ongoing tasks
- Beginners who want guidance on starting with a single bounded change before adding coordination
Skip it if
- Quick one-off code questions, since setting up a rig and queues adds overhead (the skill itself says to start simple)
- Users who are not comfortable with agents running CLI commands that launch sessions and spend model tokens; wakes and resumed work can consume tokens
- Projects where you cannot review the permission changes it may propose to native agent settings
Try asking
- “Set up a two-agent starter team to build and review one bounded change in my repository”
- “Show me the rig up plan for a workshop team with a lead, builder, QA and reviewer”
- “Hand off the current candidate from the builder to the reviewer using a queue”
- “Grow my running OpenRig team by adding one more seat”

Add it to your agent
Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip openrig-software-factory.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip openrig-software-factory.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Start with the two-agent starter team and a single bounded change before adding more seats
- Run the suggested rig up --plan command first to review the resolved runtimes and models before launching
- Decline the permission-policy offer if you prefer per-command approvals; the team default still asks before lifecycle commands
