What it does

This is the entry-point index for agents running inside the OpenRig multi-agent system. It tells the agent which other OpenRig skills exist, when each applies (for example fleet recovery, seat handover, watchdog wake, cross-machine reach, or debugging), and how to load the right one on demand using the rig command-line tool. It does not itself perform engineering tasks; it points the agent to the documents that do.

Great for

  • Developers building or operating multi-agent teams on OpenRig who want agents to find the right procedure without reading everything
  • Operators running long-lived agent seats that compact, restart, or hand work to one another

Skip it if

  • People outside OpenRig or who do not run agent teams: the index only makes sense inside an OpenRig environment
  • Installing or upgrading OpenRig itself: the description says that belongs to a separate rigs skill

Try asking

  • “My agent just compacted and doesn't know what it was doing; which OpenRig skill should it open?”
  • “A seat is being handed to a new owner; load the right handover procedure”
  • “Nothing is loaded on cold boot; find the skill that covers new-seat orientation”
Step-by-step guide: how to use OpenRig Skills IndexInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    openrig-skills.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip openrig-skills.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip openrig-skills.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Start with rig context list to see every shipped skill and its reference path before loading one
  • Load a skill by its full ref (for example skills/core/rig-lifecycle) to avoid ambiguity with similarly named skills
