What it does
This skill helps an AI agent upgrade a forked copy of the NanoClaw project. It first catalogs your customizations (config changes, edited source files, persona edits, added skills) into a markdown migration guide. When upstream releases updates, the agent checks out clean upstream code in a separate worktree and reapplies your changes from that guide, instead of running git merge and fighting conflicts. It is designed to back up your state first and to leave data folders like groups/, store/, data/ and .env untouched.
Great for
- Developers who maintain a heavily customized fork of NanoClaw and find git merge upgrades painful
- Teams that want a written, replayable record of why each local change was made
Skip it if
- Small forks with only a few changes: the skill itself suggests the lighter /update-nanoclaw approach, since the full process adds overhead
- Anyone without a git-based fork of NanoClaw, because the workflow assumes an upstream remote, branches, and a working tree
- Unattended use on a live production install without review, since it creates branches, tags, stashes or commits, and may stop services
Try asking
- “Migrate my NanoClaw fork to the latest upstream without merge conflicts”
- “Extract my customizations into a migration guide so I can upgrade later”
- “Skip to the upgrade step because my migration guide is already current”
- “Check how much my fork diverges from upstream and recommend a migration path”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Commit or stash your work before starting, since the skill checks for a clean tree and creates rollback branches and tags
- Keep the generated migration guide in version control so future upgrades can reuse it
- Review the migration guide and the upstream diff yourself before accepting the upgraded worktree into your live install
