What it does

Once installed, when you hand the agent a video link, podcast, PDF, book, screenshot or GitHub repo, it fetches the content (transcript, extracted text, OCR or repo files), writes a summary-style page in your personal knowledge base called a brain, and stores the original file for reference. It also finds the people and companies mentioned and adds links from their pages back to the new item, so your notes stay connected.

Great for

  • Researchers or students who collect lots of videos, papers and books and want them searchable in one place
  • People already using the gbrain personal knowledge base who want media added automatically
  • Anyone who wants summaries and cross-links rather than raw transcripts

Skip it if

  • Sensitive or confidential documents, because content is fetched and written into a stored knowledge base and may pass through transcription or vision services; the file does not state which services are used
  • Quick one-off summaries where you do not want your knowledge base changed, since it writes and updates multiple pages and links
  • Scanned books with poor OCR, where the skill itself says results can be garbled and should be flagged rather than trusted

Try asking

  • “Watch this video and add the key points to my brain”
  • “Process this YouTube link and link any people or companies mentioned”
  • “Ingest this PDF into my brain and keep the original file”
  • “Summarize this book chapter by chapter”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Media IngestInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    media-ingest.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip media-ingest.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip media-ingest.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Check the page after ingest, especially names and quotes, because auto-captions often misspell proper nouns.
  • Provide a clear title or target slug if you want a predictable page location.
  • Keep sensitive files out of this workflow unless you know which transcription or vision services are being used.
