What it does

When installed, the agent knows how to administer an existing GBrain server that hosts a personal knowledge base for AI tools over MCP (Model Context Protocol). It can generate single-use owner login links, register or grant access to MCP clients, preview and apply permission changes, and revoke, invalidate or delete client access, while following safety rules: preview before changing, never print secrets, and never try broader OAuth scopes to get around missing permissions. It also explains how to connect a native OAuth client and how to recover from failed or unclear operations.

Great for

  • Developers who self-host or operate a GBrain server and need to manage which AI clients can connect to it
  • Owners setting up a hosted brain for a new MCP-compatible harness or assistant
  • Operators troubleshooting MCP authorization errors such as insufficient_scope or invalid_token

Skip it if

  • Ordinary users who only want to read or write notes through an already connected client; this skill is for administration, not daily use
  • Anyone without owner credentials for the server, since the skill itself grants no authority and the agent cannot log in on its own
  • Use with unknown or untrusted servers, because the commands can create, change or delete access to a personal knowledge base

Try asking

  • “Open the GBrain admin login link for my hosted brain so I can sign in to the dashboard”
  • “Register a new MCP client called laptop-agent with the redirect URI I give you”
  • “Preview revoking the old Claude client on my server before applying it”
  • “Set up MCP OAuth for this harness and tell me the remaining steps for consent”
Step-by-step guide: how to use MCP access and adminInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    mcp-access.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip mcp-access.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip mcp-access.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Give the agent the owner admin token via a private file rather than pasting it into chat, and ask it to preview with dry-run or without --yes first
  • Read the linked ADMIN.md and hosted-harness guide before running mutating commands, since the skill points to them for exact syntax
  • If an action's outcome is unclear after a network failure, ask the agent to re-list clients before retrying
