What it does

When you explicitly run /hotfix, the agent helps you handle an urgent, serious bug outside the normal sprint process. It assesses severity, drafts a tracked hotfix record, and proposes a branch based on the release that contains the bug rather than the latest main code. It asks for your approval before changing any code, then requests sign-off from simulated lead-programmer, QA and producer roles and checks QA evidence before deployment.

Great for

  • Game studios or teams using the Claude Code Game Studios setup who need a controlled emergency patch process
  • Developers who want a documented audit trail for urgent production fixes
  • Leads who want emergency changes gated by severity checks and approvals

Skip it if

  • Minor or cosmetic bugs (the skill itself redirects S3 and lower issues to the normal bug fix workflow)
  • Projects without the referenced agents (lead-programmer, qa-tester, producer, qa-lead) or skills (/bug-triage, /smoke-check, /team-qa), since the workflow depends on them
  • Situations needing fully automatic fixes: it is designed to stop and wait for human approval at several points

Try asking

  • “/hotfix crash on level load after the 1.4 build, players cannot progress”
  • “/hotfix save data corrupted when inventory exceeds 50 items”
  • “/hotfix BUG-212 multiplayer desync in lobby”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Hotfix Emergency WorkflowInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    hotfix.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip hotfix.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip hotfix.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Pick the base ref deliberately: the skill warns against branching from main head, so confirm the tag or release branch for the affected release.
  • Expect the workflow to pause at each approval; do not invoke it for issues that do not justify an emergency process.
  • If the QA gate returns NOT ASSESSED, the skill requires a logged producer decision before deploying; plan test configuration in advance.
