What it does
This skill teaches an AI agent how to use Himalaya, a command-line email client, to work with a real email account. Once installed, the agent can list folders, read and search messages, draft and send emails, reply or forward, move or delete messages, manage flags, and download attachments by running Himalaya commands on your computer. It needs Himalaya already installed and an email account configured with login details before it can do anything.
Great for
- Developers or power users who already live in the terminal and want an agent to triage or reply to email
- People who want an agent to summarise or sort their inbox using a local email client they have configured
- Anyone comfortable editing a TOML config file and storing an email password in a password manager or keyring
Skip it if
- Non-technical users who would struggle with installing a CLI and editing config files, since setup is manual
- Situations where the agent should send email unsupervised: the skill can send messages directly, so a mistaken or prompt-injected instruction could email people on your behalf
- Shared or high-sensitivity mailboxes, because the agent will have full read and delete access to whatever account is configured
Try asking
- “List the 20 most recent emails in my INBOX and summarise anything urgent”
- “Search my mail for messages from john@example.com about the meeting and show subjects”
- “Draft a reply to message 42 saying I can meet Thursday, then show it to me before sending”
- “Move all newsletters from last week into the Archive folder”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Ask the agent to show you drafts and confirm before any send, move or delete command runs.
- Use a dedicated or limited-scope app password rather than your main account password.
- Run himalaya account configure once yourself to verify the connection before letting the agent operate on the account.
