What it does

Once installed, the agent can take a specific Gmail message, identified by its message ID, and create a new task in Google Tasks from it. The task title comes from the email subject and the notes come from the email's short snippet. It runs the gws command-line tool to do this, and by default adds the task to your default task list unless you name a different list.

Great for

  • People who use Gmail and Google Tasks and want to turn important emails into to-dos without copying them by hand
  • Developers or power users already using the gws CLI who want the agent to automate this step
  • Anyone who wants an assistant to file follow-ups from an inbox into a task list

Skip it if

  • Users who do not have the gws tool installed and authenticated, since the skill cannot work without it
  • Situations needing a full email body or attachments in the task, because the skill only uses the subject and snippet
  • Bulk processing of many emails at once, since the skill handles one message ID per run and creates a task each time

Try asking

  • “Turn the email with message ID 18c2f9a3 into a task in my default task list”
  • “Create a Google Task from this Gmail message, using the subject as the title”
  • “Add the email MSG_ID to my task list LIST_ID as a to-do”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    gws-workflow-email-to-task.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip gws-workflow-email-to-task.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip gws-workflow-email-to-task.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Ask the agent to confirm the message ID and task list before it creates the task, since the skill notes that creating a task should be confirmed first
  • Check the gws-shared auth and security rules before first use, because the skill depends on them for credentials
  • Use the --tasklist flag with a specific list ID if you do not want tasks going to your default list
