What it does
This skill teaches an AI agent to reply to a specific Gmail message using the gws command-line tool. The agent supplies a message ID and reply text, and the reply is threaded correctly under the original conversation, with the original message quoted. It can also add recipients, attach files, send HTML formatted replies, or save the reply as a draft instead of sending it.
Great for
- People who want an agent to answer Gmail threads they already have open
- Users who want replies saved as drafts for review before sending
- Developers automating routine email responses through the gws tool
Skip it if
- Sending new emails that are not replies (use the general gmail skill instead), since this skill only handles replies
- Replying to all recipients automatically, since the skill points to a separate reply-all command for that
- Unattended sending without review, because replies go out to real people and cannot be recalled once sent
Try asking
- “Reply to message 18f1a2b3c4d saying 'Thanks, got it!'”
- “Reply to this thread and CC carol@example.com”
- “Save a draft reply with the updated attachment before I review it”
- “Send an HTML reply in bold to the latest message from my manager”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Use --dry-run first to see the request before anything is sent, or --draft to review in Gmail
- Check recipients carefully, since --cc, --bcc and --to add people to the reply
- If the gws tool or shared auth is missing, run gws generate-skills as the skill instructs
