What it does
This skill teaches an AI agent to use the gws command-line tool to listen for changes in Google Workspace, such as new chat messages in a Google Chat space. Events are delivered through Google Cloud Pub/Sub and printed as a stream of JSON lines, or saved as one JSON file per event. The skill also tells the agent to ask the user for confirmation before running the command, since it creates resources.
Great for
- Developers building automations that react to Google Chat or other Workspace activity
- Data or operations staff who want a live feed of Workspace events for monitoring
Skip it if
- Users without a Google Cloud project and Workspace access, since setup will fail without them
- Situations where a persistent listener running unattended is unwanted, because it keeps polling until stopped and resources persist unless --cleanup is used
Try asking
- “Subscribe to new messages in a specific Google Chat space and stream them to my terminal”
- “Listen for one batch of Workspace events on an existing Pub/Sub subscription and then exit”
- “Subscribe to Chat message events, save each event as a JSON file in ./events, and clean up resources when done”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Pass --once for a single test pull before running a long-lived subscription
- Use --cleanup when finished so Pub/Sub resources do not persist, and reuse --subscription to reconnect later
- Run gws generate-skills first if the shared prerequisite skill file is missing
