What it does

Once installed, the agent can take a file from your computer and upload it to your Google Drive using the gws command-line tool. You can ask it to place the file in a specific folder or rename it, and the tool works out the file type automatically. The skill tells the agent to confirm with you before running the upload, since it writes to your Drive.

Great for

  • People who regularly move reports, spreadsheets or exports from their computer into Google Drive
  • Developers or ops staff scripting Drive uploads with the gws CLI
  • Anyone who wants an agent to handle routine Drive filing without remembering command syntax

Skip it if

  • Users who have not set up gws and Google authentication, since the skill cannot work without it
  • Situations needing downloads, sharing changes or file deletion, which this skill does not cover (it only uploads)
  • Uploading sensitive files to a shared or wrong Drive folder without checking, because the upload writes to your real account

Try asking

  • “Upload ./report.pdf to my Google Drive”
  • “Upload ./data.csv to Drive folder FOLDER_ID and name it 'Sales Data.csv'”
  • “Put this quarterly summary into my Drive project folder”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Google Drive File UploadInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    gws-drive-upload.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip gws-drive-upload.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip gws-drive-upload.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Give the agent the exact local file path and, if you want a specific folder, the Drive folder ID.
  • Use --name when you want a clean filename in Drive, since otherwise the local filename is used.
  • Review the confirmation the agent asks for before it runs the upload.
