What it does
This skill teaches the agent to use GitHub's official command-line tool, gh, to work with a repository. Once installed, the agent can check CI status on pull requests, list recent workflow runs, and pull the logs of failed steps so you can see why a build broke. It can also run advanced queries against GitHub's API and list issues in structured form. The agent still needs gh installed and logged in to your GitHub account, and it works only with the access that account has.
Great for
- Developers who want the agent to diagnose failing CI runs and read build logs
- Maintainers who triage issues or check the status of pull requests across a repository
- Teams already using gh who want the agent to follow the same commands
Skip it if
- People who have no GitHub account or do not use gh: the skill does nothing useful without them
- Use on repositories where the logged-in token has write or admin rights, unless you have reviewed what the agent may run, because gh commands can change repository state (for example merging or closing items), which this skill does not restrict
Try asking
- “Check the CI status of pull request 55 in owner/repo and tell me what failed”
- “Show the logs for only the failed steps of the latest run in our repo”
- “List the 10 most recent workflow runs for owner/repo”
- “List open issues in owner/repo as number and title”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Give the repository explicitly as --repo owner/repo when the agent is not inside a git checkout
- Ask for read-only actions such as listing, viewing and checking logs, and review any command before the agent runs a write action
- Use a token with the minimum scopes needed, since the agent acts with your gh login
