What it does
Once installed, the agent can produce ready-to-use GitHub Actions workflow files (YAML) for common automation tasks such as running tests across several language versions, building and pushing Docker images, deploying to Kubernetes, running security scans, and setting up reusable workflows and approval-gated production deploys. It follows the patterns and best practices in the skill, such as pinning action versions, caching dependencies, and using secrets rather than hard-coded credentials. The skill itself is only instructions and example templates; it does not run anything on its own.
Great for
- Developers setting up or improving CI/CD pipelines in a GitHub repository
- Teams who want consistent, reusable workflow templates across projects
- People learning what a typical GitHub Actions workflow looks like for testing, Docker, or Kubernetes
Skip it if
- Non-technical users with no GitHub or deployment experience, since the output still needs review and setup in a real repository
- Deployments to production without human review, because the templates are examples (e.g. the production deploy contains a placeholder comment and an example URL) and must be adapted and checked before use
- Teams using GitLab or other CI systems, which need different syntax (the skill points to a separate GitLab skill for that)
Try asking
- “Create a GitHub Actions workflow that runs npm lint and tests on Node 18 and 20 for every pull request”
- “Write a workflow that builds a Docker image and pushes it to GitHub Container Registry on version tags”
- “Set up a reusable test workflow I can call from several repositories”
- “Add a Trivy security scan that uploads results to GitHub Security”

Add it to your agent
Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip github-actions-templates.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip github-actions-templates.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Review every generated workflow before committing, especially deploy steps, and replace placeholder commands and URLs with your real values.
- Store credentials in GitHub Secrets and keep permissions minimal, as the templates demonstrate, rather than pasting keys into the YAML.
- Name your stack, Node/Python version, registry and cloud provider in your request so the agent picks the closest template and adapts it.
