What it does
When invoked, the agent walks you through writing a game design document (GDD) for a single game system, such as combat or crafting. It works one section at a time: it asks design questions, offers options, drafts each section, and writes it to file only after you approve. It also checks dependencies on other systems and can consult specialist agent roles for domain input, with the main session keeping control of file writes. Progress is saved incrementally so an interrupted session can resume at the next unfinished section.
Great for
- Game designers or indie developers writing a GDD for a new system in a Claude Code game project
- Teams using the Claude Code Game Studios template who want a consistent section-by-section design process
Skip it if
- Non-game projects, since the sections and specialist routing are built around game design documents
- Anyone wanting a fully automatic GDD with no review: the skill is built around collaborative approval at every step, and the autonomous mode rules live in a separate file not included here
Try asking
- “/design-system combat --review lean”
- “Help me write the GDD for our inventory system, one section at a time”
- “Resume the design of the crafting system where we left off”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Have your systems index (systems-index.md) and any dependency design docs ready before invoking, so the cross-referencing has real content to work with.
- Review each draft carefully before approving; the skill writes to your design files only after you say yes.
- Use the --review option (full, lean, or solo) to control how much checking happens along the way.
