What it does

This skill walks you through connecting a Discord bot to your AI assistant. You paste the bot token once, and the agent saves it to a local settings file in your home folder with restricted permissions. It then checks who is allowed to message the bot and recommends locking access down to a fixed list of Discord user IDs. It also tells you when a restart is needed after saving a token.

Great for

  • Developers setting up the Discord channel plugin for the first time
  • Anyone who wants to check who can reach their assistant through a Discord bot
  • Users who need to rotate or remove a bot token

Skip it if

  • Users who do not own a Discord bot or have no bot token, since the setup cannot proceed without one
  • Shared or public bots where access should not be narrowed, because the skill pushes strongly toward an allowlist and may not suit open communities
  • Anyone who wants to paste a token into a shared or untrusted chat, since the token is a credential that grants control of the bot

Try asking

  • “Set up my Discord bot with this token: <paste token>”
  • “Check my Discord channel status and tell me who can reach the assistant”
  • “Who is allowed to DM my bot right now?”
  • “Remove the Discord bot token from my configuration”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    configure.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip configure.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip configure.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Generate the bot token in the Developer Portal under Bot → Reset Token; Discord shows it only once, so save it safely before pasting.
  • After saving a token, restart the session or run /reload-plugins, because the server reads the token only at startup.
  • Once you have collected the Discord user IDs you trust, switch the policy to allowlist so that new users cannot trigger pairing codes.
