What it does

When installed, this skill makes the agent look at a software project (its package files, dependencies, folder layout and any existing Claude Code config) and then recommend which Claude Code features would help most, such as hooks that auto-format files, subagents that review code, reusable skills, plugins, and MCP server connections to external tools. It is read-only: it reports recommendations and does not create or change any files; you implement them yourself or ask Claude to build them separately.

Great for

  • Developers who are new to Claude Code and want a tailored starter setup for an existing project
  • Teams that want to review or tune their Claude Code workflow across hooks, skills and integrations
  • Anyone asking what Claude Code features they should use for a specific codebase

Skip it if

  • Projects where you do not want the agent reading your dependency and config files, since it runs read and search commands over the project (Read, Glob, Grep, Bash)
  • Users who expect it to set anything up automatically; it only produces suggestions and creates no files
  • Non-developers, since the output assumes familiarity with package files, hooks and MCP servers

Try asking

  • “Analyze this repo and recommend Claude Code automations for it”
  • “I want to optimize my Claude Code setup for this React project”
  • “What Claude Code features should I use for this codebase?”
  • “Recommend hooks and subagents for my Python API with pytest”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 6 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    claude-automation-recommender.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip claude-automation-recommender.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip claude-automation-recommender.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Run it from the root of the project so it can find package.json, pyproject.toml or similar files
  • Ask for a specific type, such as only hooks or only MCP servers, to get 3-5 focused options instead of a short overview
  • Review any suggested hook or MCP server configuration before adopting it, since those can run commands or connect to external services
