What it does

This skill teaches an AI agent to delegate larger coding jobs to other coding agent command-line tools (OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, Pi, or OpenCode). Instead of editing code itself, the agent starts one of these tools in a chosen project folder, optionally in the background, then checks its progress, answers its prompts, or stops it. It also gives guidance on safe ways to review pull requests, such as using a temporary clone or git worktree.

Great for

  • Developers who already use Codex or Claude Code and want an agent to hand off feature builds or refactors
  • Teams reviewing many pull requests in parallel using temporary checkouts
  • Users running an agent inside a chat tool who want background coding jobs managed from the shell

Skip it if

  • Simple one-line fixes, which the file says to do directly (the delegation overhead isn't worth it)
  • Anyone who wants to avoid tools running with permissions skipped: the file recommends bypassPermissions and --yolo modes that disable sandboxing and approvals, so code can change or run without confirmation
  • Work inside a sensitive or personal folder, since agents may read unrelated files in the directory they are given

Try asking

  • “Build a dark mode toggle in ~/Projects/myproject using Codex in the background”
  • “Review PR #86 in a temporary clone and summarise the risks”
  • “Refactor the auth module of this repo with Claude Code in print mode”
  • “Check the status of my running coding sessions and stop any that are stuck”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Coding Agent DelegationInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    coding-agent.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip coding-agent.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip coding-agent.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Give each delegated task its own project folder with workdir so the sub-agent stays focused on that code.
  • Run reviews in a temporary clone or git worktree, never in your main project, and clean up afterwards.
  • Prefer the safer --full-auto or default modes over --yolo or bypassPermissions unless you trust the task and the environment.
