What it does

When installed, the agent checks code it has just written, or code you ask it to review, against a checklist of mistakes AI coding tools commonly make. It looks for unhandled failures, resources that are opened but never closed (connections, timers, event listeners, temp files), edge cases like empty or huge inputs, imports and API methods that may not exist, and code that doesn't follow the project's existing style. It is a checklist-driven review done by the agent itself, not a separate tool that runs tests.

Great for

  • Developers reviewing AI-generated code before merging a pull request
  • People who vibe-code quickly and want a second pass for hidden debt
  • Teams that want a consistent review checklist for AI-written modules

Skip it if

  • Replacing automated tests, linters, or a human security review, since the skill is only a prompted checklist and can miss issues or report false positives
  • Non-programmers who cannot judge whether the agent's findings are correct

Try asking

  • “Audit the module you just generated for missing error handling and unreleased resources”
  • “Review this AI-written PR for hallucinated imports or deprecated API calls before I merge”
  • “The agent says it's done, but check whether there is hidden debt in the database code”
Step-by-step guide: how to use AI Debt DetectorInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    ai-debt-detector.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip ai-debt-detector.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip ai-debt-detector.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Point the agent at specific files or a diff so the audit has concrete code to check against.
  • Ask it to verify imports against your actual package.json or requirements.txt, since it works from the code you provide.
  • Treat the findings as a review checklist to confirm yourself, not as proof the code is correct.
