What it does
This skill walks an AI agent through connecting NanoClaw to a Mattermost team chat server, so the agent can receive and send messages in Mattermost DMs, channels and threads, and post interactive approval buttons. Before installing anything, it first looks for a Mattermost server you already run (on localhost or in Docker) and asks you to confirm which one to use, instead of picking one automatically. It can also change two server settings (SiteURL and WebsocketURL) after asking you, and it checks the server's public configuration to verify them.
Great for
- Teams that already run a self-hosted Mattermost server and want an AI agent to work inside it
- Developers setting up a NanoClaw bot channel who want guided, re-runnable setup
- Operators who prefer to be asked before any server setting is changed
Skip it if
- People without a Mattermost server: the skill connects to a server but does not install or run one, so it will only point you to Mattermost's official guides
- Admins who do not want an agent changing server settings through mmctl or Docker commands, since those changes are made on a live server after your approval
- Use outside NanoClaw: the steps depend on NanoClaw's own configuration and helper scripts
Try asking
- “Set up a Mattermost bot channel for NanoClaw using my existing local server”
- “Find out whether a Mattermost server at my company URL is reachable and configured correctly for a bot”
- “Walk me through connecting NanoClaw to Mattermost, asking before changing any server settings”
- “Re-run the Mattermost channel setup after my bot token was rotated”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Have your Mattermost server URL (with https://) and bot token ready before starting, so the prompts go quickly.
- When the agent offers a detected server, check the URL is the one you intend before typing use.
- Keep the server's ServiceSettings.AllowCorsFrom unchanged; the skill is written to avoid changing it, and you should do the same by hand if you see origin errors.
