What it does

This skill is an installer for NanoClaw, a personal AI assistant framework. It walks the user through creating a wiki folder inside a chat group, where the agent keeps notes it builds up over time from sources the user adds (articles, PDFs, transcripts and similar). It sets up an index, a log, and instructions telling the agent how to ingest, query and periodically check the wiki, so knowledge accumulates instead of being re-derived each time. It also edits the group's CLAUDE.md instructions and creates a container skill file, and it is designed to be safe to re-run.

Great for

  • NanoClaw users who want a long-lived personal or team knowledge base the agent maintains
  • Developers or researchers who want to apply Karpathy's LLM Wiki idea to a specific topic
  • People who prefer a chat-based setup that asks questions before creating files

Skip it if

  • Users who do not run NanoClaw: the steps assume its project layout, setup scripts and launchd or systemd services, so it will not work elsewhere
  • Sensitive or confidential material: sources are fetched and stored in plain files and sent to the model provider, and the skill does not address access control
  • Anyone expecting a one-click install: it requires interactive decisions and restarting the service

Try asking

  • “add wiki for my reading on distributed systems”
  • “Set up a karpathy wiki in a dedicated group for my research notes”
  • “Ingest this PDF into the wiki and update the index and log”
  • “Schedule a weekly wiki health check”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Add Karpathy LLM WikiInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 3 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    add-karpathy-llm-wiki.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip add-karpathy-llm-wiki.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip add-karpathy-llm-wiki.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Decide the wiki's domain and source types in the design step first, since the generated container skill and CLAUDE.md section are tailored to those answers
  • Add sources one at a time and review the results, as the skill's own instructions say batch processing produces shallow pages
  • Review the generated CLAUDE.md section and container skill before relying on them, and check REMOVE.md for how to undo the changes

What's inside
