About

Compute MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes or HMACs of text and files, and compare against an expected checksum.

How to use it

  1. 1Choose Text or File.
  2. 2Type text or drop a file — all five hashes are computed together.
  3. 3Tick HMAC and enter a key if you need a keyed hash.
  4. 4Paste an expected checksum to see which algorithm matches.
You give
Text (hashed as UTF-8) or any file
You get
Hex or Base64 digests for MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512, plus a match check
Good to know
Files are read fully into memory, so very large files (around 500 MB+) may fail on phones. SHA hashes need a secure (https) page. MD5 and SHA-1 are broken for security purposes; use them only for checksums.

FAQ

How do I verify a downloaded file?

Drop the file in, then paste the checksum from the download page into the compare box. A green “Match” confirms the file is identical.

Can I hash passwords with this?

Not for storage. Password storage needs a slow, salted algorithm like bcrypt, scrypt or Argon2, not a fast hash.

Why does my hash differ from another tool's?

Usually a trailing newline or different text encoding. This tool hashes exactly what's in the box as UTF-8, with no added newline.
