What it does

Once installed, when you hand the agent a markdown file of raw notes, transcripts, or fragments, it reads everything, proposes a few possible openings for an article, and then builds the article block by block with you. It pushes back on weak paragraphs, asks what each section does for the reader, and only introduces ideas the reader has already been given. The agent writes the result into a separate article file and leaves your original notes untouched.

Great for

  • Writers turning interview transcripts or brainstorm dumps into a first article draft
  • People who want to be pushed on structure and argument rather than get a finished text auto-generated
  • Teams shaping internal explainers from scattered meeting notes

Skip it if

  • Quick one-shot rewrites or summaries, since the skill is deliberately slow and interactive (it asks the user to choose openings and approve each block)
  • Producing content from nothing: it only mines the material you supply and names gaps rather than inventing examples

Try asking

  • “Shape my interview transcript in notes/raw.md into an article about remote onboarding.”
  • “Here is my pile of research fragments in research.md. Help me pick an opening and build the article.”
  • “Turn these brainstorm notes into a paragraph-by-paragraph essay, and ask me where to save it.”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Writing Shape EditorInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 2 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    writing-shape.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip writing-shape.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip writing-shape.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Give it a clear raw material file first, even messy, and say where you want the article saved so it does not have to ask.
  • Decide your prerequisites up front: tell it what your readers already know so it does not over-define basics.
  • Be ready to choose between the 2-3 candidate openings and to approve or cut each paragraph.
