What it does
This skill teaches an AI agent to manage tasks in Things 3, a to-do app for macOS, by running the things command-line tool. Once installed, the agent can capture new to-dos with notes, dates, tags, and checklists, look up and update existing ones, and delete them to the Trash. It is told to read items back after each change to confirm the result, and to preview bulk changes first.
Great for
- Mac users who keep their tasks in Things 3 and want to capture them by chatting with an agent
- Developers or power users comfortable installing a Go-based CLI and setting an auth token
- Anyone who wants the agent to verify changes instead of assuming they worked
Skip it if
- Users without macOS or Things 3, since the tool only works on Mac (the skill itself notes this)
- Users who want Apple Reminders rather than Things; the skill routes those requests elsewhere, and it is not a general reminders tool
- Anyone who would be uneasy with an agent deleting or modifying tasks without checking, as updates and deletes do change real data
Try asking
- “Add a to-do called 'Book LHR-SFO nonstop business flight' for tomorrow with the tag travel”
- “Search my Things tasks for 'flight' and show me what's there”
- “Rename the to-do about the flight and add a note saying nonstop only”
- “Delete the old 'Renew passport' task and confirm it went to the Trash”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Ask for a dry run first on bulk changes, for example 'preview what would be deleted'.
- Keep the auth token in ~/.profile or 1Password rather than pasting it into chat, since the skill is designed never to print it.
- Be explicit about lists, dates, and tags in your request so the agent doesn't have to guess.
