What it does

Once installed, the agent helps you write down why you bought a stock: a short core thesis, testable assumptions, sell-triggers (red lines) and valuation targets, saved to a file. Each time you return, such as after earnings, it reloads that file, checks each assumption against fresh news and financials, scores the thesis health from 1 to 10 and suggests hold, add, trim or exit. It is a structured discipline checklist for holdings rather than a source of stock picks.

Great for

  • Individual investors who want a written record of why they bought and when to sell
  • Value-oriented investors who review holdings each earnings season
  • Anyone who tends to hold losers too long or panic-sell on drawdowns

Skip it if

  • Trading advice or buy signals: the skill recommends hold/add/trim/exit based on a formula and web data, which can be wrong or outdated and is not personal financial advice
  • Users who need verified financial data: it relies on web search and tool outputs that the file does not validate

Try asking

  • “I just bought Costco at $900, help me write my investment thesis”
  • “Run a quarterly check on my Apple thesis against the latest earnings”
  • “Build a thesis for NVIDIA and set red lines for my position”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Investment Thesis TrackerInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    thesis-tracker.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip thesis-tracker.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip thesis-tracker.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Fill in the five thesis sentences yourself before the agent runs; if you cannot, the skill says the buy decision is unclear.
  • Keep the saved thesis file under version control so you can see how your view changed over time.
  • Verify any price, valuation or financial figure the agent cites against the original filing before acting on it.
