What it does

Once installed, the agent works like a senior Terraform engineer when you ask about cloud infrastructure. It structures reusable modules with inputs, outputs and validation, configures remote state with locking and encryption, pins provider versions, and helps migrate or import existing resources. It follows a set workflow: format and validate the code, run a plan, summarise what will be created, changed or destroyed, and wait for your explicit approval before running apply.

Great for

  • Engineers writing or refactoring Terraform modules for AWS, Azure or GCP
  • Teams moving Terraform state to a remote backend or resolving state conflicts
  • People who want a checklist-driven review of plans before anything is changed in the cloud

Skip it if

  • People with no Terraform or cloud experience who might approve an apply without understanding it, since the plan summary still needs expert judgement
  • Production environments where the agent is given direct credentials and allowed to run apply unattended, because the approval step depends on the agent following its instructions
  • Non-Terraform stacks such as Pulumi or CloudFormation, which the guidance does not cover

Try asking

  • “Create a reusable Terraform module for an S3 bucket with tags and input validation”
  • “Set up an S3 remote backend with DynamoDB locking for my prod environment”
  • “Review my Terraform plan and tell me which resources would be destroyed”
  • “Pin my AWS and Azure provider versions and fix the state drift errors from my last plan”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Terraform Infrastructure EngineerInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 6 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    terraform-engineer.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip terraform-engineer.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip terraform-engineer.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Always read the plan summary yourself before approving apply, especially any destroy or replace actions.
  • Use least-privilege, short-lived cloud credentials rather than admin keys so a mistake has limited reach.
  • Ask for a plan-only run first in any shared or production environment and review the output.
