What it does

Once installed, the agent approaches cloud infrastructure questions using a structured process: it assesses requirements and constraints, proposes services and topology, checks for single points of failure, and lays out security, cost, migration and monitoring considerations. It can draft example Terraform or CLI commands for AWS, Azure and GCP, and loads separate reference notes on each provider, cost optimisation and multi-cloud portability when relevant. It is guidance for designing systems, not a tool that changes your cloud account by itself.

Great for

  • Engineers planning a new AWS, Azure or GCP architecture who want a checklist-driven design review
  • Teams preparing a cloud migration who need waves, connectivity checks and a 6Rs-style plan
  • Architects reviewing disaster recovery targets (RTO/RPO) and cost optimisation options

Skip it if

  • Production changes made without review: the examples include IAM, networking and autoscaling code that should be checked by a qualified engineer before use, since mistakes can expose data or cost money
  • Regulated workloads needing certified compliance advice: the skill says to consider compliance but does not provide compliance certification or legal guidance
  • Non-technical users looking for a fully managed cloud service: it produces advice and code drafts, not a deployed environment

Try asking

  • “Design a highly available three-tier architecture on AWS for a web app with a PostgreSQL database”
  • “Create a disaster recovery plan with RTO and RPO targets for our Azure workloads”
  • “Review our monthly GCP spend and suggest cost optimisation steps”
  • “Plan a phased migration of our on-premise servers to the cloud with connectivity checks before cutover”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 6 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    cloud-architect.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip cloud-architect.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip cloud-architect.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Give the agent your actual constraints up front: compliance needs, budget, expected traffic and current stack, so the design is not generic
  • Ask for the reasoning behind each recommendation and review the proposed IAM and networking policies yourself before applying anything
  • Treat the CLI commands as examples: check resource names and regions, and run them in a non-production account first
