What it does

Once installed, the agent can turn an object, description, photo, CAD model or concept (such as display pixels or interface layers) into a technical illustration in the style of an engineering or assembly drawing. It builds the 3D geometry, checks the rendered drawing, and packages a local viewer page where you can switch between assembled and exploded views, colour parts, and download SVG, PNG or PDF files. It is meant to explain how something is built, not to serve as a manufacturing drawing.

Great for

  • Designers or educators who want a clear exploded-view diagram of a product or mechanism
  • Students explaining how a device or concept is layered or assembled
  • Writers or marketers who need an illustrative figure of how something works

Skip it if

  • Producing drawings to manufacture a part: the output has no tolerances and invented dimensions stay invented, so use a CAD tool's drawing workflow instead
  • Accurate depiction of hidden internals of a real object from a styling photo alone, since the evidence cannot establish them

Try asking

  • “Make an exploded axonometric illustration of this headphone from my photo, with the assembled view available”
  • “Draw a technical sheet showing how RGB subpixels are layered on an OLED display, labelled as a concept”
  • “Create a section view through the valve body of this pump described in my notes”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Teardown Technical IllustrationsInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 15 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    teardown.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip teardown.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip teardown.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Supply a reference image for the finish you want and a photo or CAD file of the subject, and say which is which.
  • State the intended use and output size up front so the agent chooses the right view set and line weights.
  • Say when a drawing is a concept or fictional so it is labelled as such rather than presented as measured fact.
