What it does

When you have many documents and the same questions to ask of each, this skill makes the agent read every document, answer each question in a consistent typed format, and put the results in a spreadsheet with one row per document and one column per data point. Every answer comes with the exact quoted sentence and its location, so a person can check it quickly. Cells that are missing, ambiguous, or need a human judgment are marked with explicit states instead of being left blank.

Great for

  • Lawyers or deal teams running M&A diligence across many contracts, such as checking change-of-control or assignment clauses
  • Anyone who needs a consistent spreadsheet extracted from a folder of similar documents such as leases or vendor agreements
  • Teams that want a verification workload summary showing which cells need a human to check

Skip it if

  • Final legal conclusions: every cell is described as a lead to verify, not a finding, so it is risky to rely on without reading the source (the skill itself says so)
  • Issue spotting across a small set of documents where a single careful read is better; the skill is designed for batch comparison
  • Confidential matters where documents are sent to a Drive or VDR without checking that the agent's data handling is approved by your organisation

Try asking

  • “Review these 200 target contracts for change-of-control, assignment, and MAC clauses and give me a spreadsheet”
  • “Build a review grid for the leases in this folder: term, notice period, and renewal options”
  • “Extract these fields from these vendor contracts and output as xlsx”
  • “Batch review the NDAs in ./vdr/02-Contracts for governing law and term”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Tabular Document ReviewInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 4 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    tabular-review.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip tabular-review.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip tabular-review.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Start with the ma-diligence template or a small sample run of 3 to 5 documents so you can adjust the schema before the full run
  • Read the not_present, unclear and needs_review counts in the summary first to see where human attention is needed
  • Keep the verbatim quote columns; the answer is only useful if you can check the source sentence against it
