What it does

When a company receives a subpoena, this skill makes the agent read it, classify it (for example third-party documents, deposition, or regulatory demand), pull the related matter and privilege notes from the user's legal configuration files, and produce a triage memo. The memo covers scope, burden and privilege issues, a possible objections framework, a compliance plan and a deadline calendar. It also flags grand jury subpoenas for immediate escalation to criminal counsel and suggests follow-up steps such as a legal hold.

Great for

  • In-house or outside counsel handling a subpoena or civil investigative demand served on a company
  • Legal operations staff who need a first-pass triage and deadline list before a lawyer reviews it
  • Lawyers who want a structured checklist of objection categories to verify

Skip it if

  • Final legal advice or filings: the skill's own text says rule outputs are starting-point heuristics that must be checked against the current rule and local variant before use in writing (risk of wrong deadlines or missed objections)
  • Grand jury subpoenas: the skill stops and escalates rather than analyzing them, so it gives no substantive help there
  • Anyone without legal training or a supervising lawyer, since missed deadlines can cause contempt exposure or waive privilege

Try asking

  • “We got a subpoena from the court in the Acme case, here is the PDF. Triage it.”
  • “Served with a third-party document subpoena from a state AG. Classify it and build a deadline calendar.”
  • “Here is a deposition subpoena for our operations manager. Draft an objections framework and compliance plan.”

Install in 3 steps

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    subpoena-triage.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip subpoena-triage.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip subpoena-triage.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Give the agent the subpoena file path and confirm the forum, since FRCP 45 and state variants change objection deadlines.
  • Check every citation tagged verify or model knowledge against a primary source before relying on it in an objection.
  • Run the matching legal hold check early, because the skill hands off to legal-hold when no hold is in place.
