What it does
This is a set of written instructions that tells an AI agent how to plan a statistical method for a research project. Once installed, the agent proposes a named method for a clearly defined problem, specifies its inputs, assumptions, tuning settings, failure modes and cost, and lists baselines and ablation tests to compare against. It also links each method to the research claims it is meant to support.
Great for
- Researchers drafting the methods section of a statistics or ML paper
- Students planning an analysis with proper baselines and ablations
- Teams in the AutoResearchClaw research pipeline who need structured method proposals
Skip it if
- Simply running an existing statistical test on data, since this skill is about designing methods rather than executing analyses
- Settings where the problem has not yet been formally specified, because the skill expects a formal problem formulation first and outputs may be generic otherwise
- High-stakes decisions (medical, legal, financial) taken on the agent's proposed method without review by a qualified statistician
Try asking
- “Propose a statistical estimator for my causal question, with assumptions and failure modes listed”
- “Suggest baselines and an ablation study to test whether my new method's key feature matters”
- “Create a method-to-claim map linking my proposed method to my three research claims”

Add it to your agent
Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip statistical-method-design.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip statistical-method-design.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Provide a clear formal problem statement and assumptions before invoking the skill, since the output depends on them.
- Review every proposed assumption and theoretical claim yourself; the agent's proposals are drafts, not verified results.
- Ask for specific diagnostics you can actually run on your data to check the proposed method's assumptions.
