What it does

Vercel can hide preview and production websites behind a login wall. This skill teaches the agent how to get past that wall the intended way: it uses the signed-in developer's Vercel CLI identity to mint a short-lived token and passes it to a browser session, so the agent can load and inspect the page. It also explains what to do when access is blocked, such as asking a human to add a Trusted Sources rule in the Vercel dashboard, rather than making the site public.

Great for

  • Developers who want an agent to test or review a Vercel preview deployment behind Vercel Authentication or SSO
  • Teams using agent-browser to automate checks on protected staging or production URLs

Skip it if

  • Public websites or deployments that are already accessible, since the skill adds no value there
  • Anyone wanting to bypass access controls for others: the skill forbids disabling protection or making sites public, but a static bypass secret it describes is still a powerful credential if mishandled

Try asking

  • “Open my protected preview at https://my-app.vercel.app and take a snapshot of the login-gated dashboard”
  • “Why does my Vercel preview URL redirect to vercel.com/login? Diagnose it”
  • “Check the staging deployment of my-app for broken links after this PR”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Protected Vercel DeploymentsInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    protected-vercel-deployments.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip protected-vercel-deployments.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip protected-vercel-deployments.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Confirm the Vercel CLI version is 53.3.0 or newer before running, because older versions leak the token to stderr
  • Keep the browser session open and continue in it; repeat the authenticated open if the session restarts
  • Never save the token or saved browser state containing the _vercel_jwt cookie to shared files or logs
