What it does

Once installed, the agent works like a procurement or BizOps lead reviewing company spending. It sorts line items into a UNSPSC-style category map with a Pareto breakdown of which categories drive most cost, measures how long purchase orders take per category and flags bottlenecks, and drafts a supplier consolidation plan for duplicate tools. It refuses to recommend single-supplier consolidation for critical categories unless a documented backup plan exists. The bundled Python scripts do the arithmetic deterministically rather than the model guessing numbers.

Great for

  • Finance or BizOps leads running an annual SaaS audit or category spend review
  • Operators who suspect duplicate tools (monitoring, expense, email marketing) and need a defensible consolidation case
  • Teams merging two procurement processes after an acquisition

Skip it if

  • Scoring a vendor you already plan to keep: use the sibling vendor-management skill instead, since this one focuses on what to buy and from whom
  • Contract drafting or negotiation, or financial close and P&L analysis, which the skill explicitly routes elsewhere; the category map is tuned for tech-startup spend and is not the full UNSPSC database, so results may misclassify specialised spend

Try asking

  • “Run a spend audit on this year's supplier invoices and show me the Pareto by category”
  • “Find the bottleneck categories in our purchase orders using the cycle-time data”
  • “Plan consolidation of our three monitoring tools and flag any tier-1 single-source risks”
  • “Show which SaaS renewals cluster in the same month and how to reduce that leverage loss”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Procurement OptimizerInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 8 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    procurement-optimizer.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip procurement-optimizer.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip procurement-optimizer.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Fill assets/spend_intake_template.md with prior-year spend as well so YoY growth can be calculated
  • Record break-glass plans in the supplier input for tier-1 vendors, otherwise the planner will block consolidation
  • Review the script outputs yourself before presenting savings figures, since the category map and tier lists are built-in assumptions
